Yves Saint Laurent

Style Yves Saint Laurent has managed to burn a fire of desire where before there was only respectability. «I am not interested in just beauty. I need to shock and seduce» – says Couturier. Today the style of the 60s is at the peak of popularity. It comes back not only in fabrics, models, colors, but in copying the garments of that time in a modern format. House Yves Saint Laurent proves that the great designers do not need to scoop inspiration from the outside: they just need to look back to find all they need.

Linda Evangelista, Courtney Love, Catherine Deneuve, and other world icons are clients of Yves Saint Laurent. The men's wardrobe is created from the most beautiful fabrics: for menswear luxury is as important, as for women’s. But at the same time they use very simple details. Elegance is the first principle.

History
The name Yves Saint Laurent is well known around the world. More than 40 years, he dedicated life to the art of haute couture. He is a living legend. When he was young he said that his name would be written by golden letters on the Champs Elysee. So it happened. The glory came to him when he wasn’t really ready for it. At the age of 21 he became a head of the Christian Dior house. By his own confession he was a megalomaniac. In 1961, Yves Saint Laurent opened his own label. In 1966, the designer created a line of tuxedos. He also put his efforts in the direction to Pret-a-porte, and opened boutique YSL in Paris. Laurent drew for columns of humour and created suits and decorations for theatre, ballet and films. He was the best at shocking and seducing people. In 1971 year he appeared naked on advertising of his own perfume and once showed up on a podium as a model hiding his eyes behind dark glasses. He received an Oscar for best costume design for the scandalous film «The Daytime Beauty,» with Catherine Deneuve. That was the beginning of cooperation between actresses and couturier. He was also the first who brought African design into the female wardrobe.

Philosophy
Yves Saint Laurent Collections are like novels. Everything is there: fire, enjoyment of life, and a storm of emotions. Yves Saint Laurent was a pioneer in many ways. He only regrets that he had not invented jeans. When he created his famous classic tuxedo suit for women, Laurent said: “Nothing emphasizes femininity better than a men's suit if it is worn by real woman.” His dream was to make women’clothes comfortable and functional. He certainly succeeded in that.
It’s hard to imagine our wardrobe without that suit today. The suits created by Laurent are elegant and comfortable at the same time. As his teachers said, “Mr. Laurent hated any limits. The idea that women would feel uncomfortable walking horrifies him”. However, Yves Saint Laurent used in his creations for seduction along with elegance. He is absolutely sure that he always knows best what women want. His long and successful career confirms this. Today Yves Saint Laurent House works under the creative director Stefano Pilati.
